i heard someone say
that the sky was
gonna calm down
and lower just enough
to touch the tips of
our noses

and i heard once
that the wind was
gonna brush our
hair all calm and sweet
like some lover you
never knew

but even though what's said
isn't always heard
i can swear my tongue and
my ears combine
to invent this machine
that makes everyone
seem well

in silence i wrote a
million words that should
have been said but not
even the scratches of my
pen met your ears and
for that i could
go numb to everything

it's not that everyone looks at you
cause they dont
but while you're walking down the street
they're looking past what they really see
to make up for all the times
they stepped on your shoe the first few times

the world's arms
could be
wrapped around me
but i'll be
completely fine if
you're helping me
pry them off me

twigs just keep breaking
with a little pressure from an
unknown surface on my face
and if you look hard enough
you might be able to see
the heart i usually wear in the
right place

but it doesn't really matter
as long as it's there
and its growing good
it's looking pretty red from
all the others i've swallowed
and all the times i'd wished
you followed
